Welcome/welcome back

For those of you who remember the old blog: welcome back. To those of you who are just discovering me: welcome. Forgive the current lack of a theme on the blog. I’m back from a pretty long break.

I stopped publishing, and essentially removed the vast majority of my back catalogue from sale, as I wasn’t happy with continuing to sell some of my early work. I can see now I made the giant rookie mistake of following the market too much, and trying to write things I knew would sell, rather than what I wanted. You, as a reader, deserve a lot more than that. I tried to cover too many different erotica subgenres and fetishes, some of which I just wasn’t feeling, and which I’m certain other authors can do more credit to. As a result, I burned out for a while on writing. I had hundreds of ideas tumbling around in my head, but I found I was just writing less and less each day. At the same time, I was dealing with an illness that took up a large portion of my life, as well as trying to manage a drastic change in careers. I needed to step back for a while.

After doing a little soul searching, as the saying goes, I knew I wanted to carry on writing, as it’s always been in my heart and my head. I decided to expand from pure erotica into erotic romance, purely for the reason that I wanted to write more of a connection between my characters, rather than just steamy sex. I started off with vague plans for a full length novel – a medieval romance in a fantasy setting. For the first time in years, I was writing purely for me, and I couldn’t put my pen down. I had that massive flood of ideas again, and this time it was all the stories I wanted to tell.

Before I knew it, those initial plans had become the outlines for five different books, and a hell of a lot more short stories that needed to be told – a hell of a lot more passion. I researched, and I wrote. A lot. Over the next few years, I’m going to be doing my utmost to finally get all of my ideas published. It’s going to be a lot of work, but it already feels so rewarding to be doing it.

As for what you, the reader, can expect, there’s going to be a lot of historical fantasy; princesses and castles and lords (oh my!), and much more to be revealed along the line. I have a thing for strong and sexy older heroes, along with powerful heroines who are happy to learn from a more experienced lover, keen to discover their growing sexuality and their place in the world. You can expect a little dominance and submission, and a lot of tension and power play on the path to ultimate pleasure.

The first novel I chose to focus on and release isn’t the one I originally intended, but I knew right away it was the right one to do – the one that just fell into place. It’s my writing at its most free and honest. It has a late 17th century fantasy setting – a story of seduction, surrender, and romance. There are a few teasing notes of BDSM, a strong leading lady who doesn’t want to sit back and wait for rescue, and a pirate captain with a wicked grin and a filthy mouth, who I know you’re going to love. You can read about it in a little more detail in the next blog post.

To the people who bought my original stories: thank you. From the bottom of my heart, and my odd little writer’s brain, I will be forever grateful to the people who helped to make all this happen, and encouraged me to go on doing the writing thing. In particular, to those readers of my m/m stories: I haven’t ruled out continuing to write m/m erotica in the future, but my current shorts/book plans are only for m/f pairings. There’s still going to be all of the passionate, steamy sex you originally came for – I’m just sorry for making you wait so long for the next installment. Welcome back.

To the people who are just discovering me: welcome, and thanks for giving me a try. I hope you’ll stick around for the ride.

It’s been a long journey getting here, but with my first ever novel finally about to be released, it’s one I’d love you to come along on with me.

Once again, thanks, and welcome.
